I’m Special / I’m Not Special

In August of 1990, at a personal development workshop known as The Forum, a facilitator stood on stage and spoke steadily into the microphone. “None of you are unique,” he told us. “None of you are special.”

Fast forward to last Wednesday. I was in post-meditation mode, thinking about what came to me during my time of quiet reflection, and peacefully pruning the tomato vines when that strong, truthful, inner voice that we all meet at some point said, “For many years you wanted to be special. Now you know you aren’t. That is freedom. Now get to work, and do the things that are special to you. Watch what grows from that place, without an addiction to being recognized, congratulated, or rewarded. Then you’ll know even more profoundly what it means to be free – and how wonderfully special you are, as you are.”

What Are You For?

Yesterday, which was Independence Day in the US, I woke with the thought, “What are you for?”

While pondering that question it occurred to me that there is much chatter on Twitter and Facebook, in newspapers, on TV news, and in other media about resisting, protesting, or being against something. My next thought was, “What would happen inside of us, in our communities, and around the world if we were to focus more on being for something, instead of against it? “I stand for equal rights.” “I believe in my freedom and rally for myself.” Is that too naive, idealistic, or unrealistic these days? Are those ideals already part of the mission of the marches we’ve seen recently? Yes, when people rally together, and express their anger, doubts, worries, and fears, it certainly can attract headlines, and lead to change. Sometimes, shouting it out makes a difference.

I looked on-line for an example of a movement that embodies the ideals above, and came across this:

The mission of the Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. The Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and create entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.

Here is a headline from the New York Times about the Women’s March, which took place on Jan.21, 2017: Women’s March Highlights as Huge Crowds Protest Trump: ‘We’re Not Going Away’ (Full story here: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/21/us/womens-march.html

That search led to this:
Mother Teresa - Peace rally

Which led to this:
Gandhi - Be the change

So what the heck is my point here? For me, “What are you for?” is a chance to re-align with things that allow peace, kindness, generosity, and compassion to flow through me unimpeded.

What’s Your Focus?

When I was a kid I noticed that when I said I wanted a green-colored bike, I began to see green bikes everywhere. The same went for orange Volkswagen Beetles, butterflies, and mystery books. As I got older, my focus shifted to travel, jobs, money, and sex. What fun it was – and is! – to see things manifest, and often very quickly.

Orange Beetle

Today, the words spoken to me a few years ago by a friend popped into my head. “You’re very good at manifesting. You talk about things, and then they appear,” she said. This was after what I’ve called the ‘bottoming out’ of my fiances had occurred. I was so focused on surviving, and struggling to move beyond my fear of bankruptcy that I could barely see where in my life I was thriving. And I was thriving in so many wonderful ways! How could I miss out on the beauty of that! Oh, the power of the mind!

What I Focus On Grows

Life keeps bringing me reminders of how easy things can be when we don’t resist, when we love what is, when we let others help us, and when we surrender to the call of the heart. I’m currently seeing proof of that as I book guests for my new, six-week Mindful Manifestation Group Challenge (see below). Names have popped into my head, I’ve reached out to invite those people to be a part of the fun, and – BAM! – it’s a done deal. No fuss, no muss.

What is your focus these days? What have you been asking for? What are you allowing yourself to receive?
Would you like support in letting all the good stuff you want to come to you easily, and potentially more quickly? If so, join us July 10th through Aug. 21st for…

Open Wider

This morning I was washing dishes and noticed something covering the filtering screen over the drain. “That’s not helpful,” I thought. “Nothings gonna get down the drain with that kind of mess in the way.” I reached into the filter and scooped out the potentially drain-clogging muck. Later, as I was driving to a meeting, it occurred to me that the muck in the drain was holding a great bit of information for my soul-searching self.

1) I didn’t know for sure if the drain would be clogged by what was hanging out in the filter. I assumed it would.

2) I took action based on previous life experiences.

3) My action potentially allowed for things (water, etc.) to flow more easily and quickly through a wider passage in the drain.

My BIG TAKEAWAY is: OPEN WIDER and let more good stuff flow to you!

Here are some ESSENTIAL OILS I use to support mental clarity, and spiritual insight, and expansion:

– Frankincense
– Lemon

Sick and Tired Of What?

Last week, a virus I had took me on quite a journey. Extreme drops in energy levels, fever, and sleeplessness combined with major body aches were my daily companions for 7 days and nights. I was up, and I was down. Throughout it, I was committed to knowing what, if any, underlying thought or belief system was ready to be revealed, and maybe let go of, or adjusted in some kind way. In other words, what was I sick and tired of?

“We go into the darkness, we seek initiation, in order to know directly how the roots of all beings are tied together: how we are related to all things, how this relationship expresses itself in terms of interdependence, and finally how all phenomena abide within one another.” – Joan Halifax

Twenty years ago I sat for a week, naked and silent, on a wooden platform, under a canopy of mosquito netting in a small, three-sided hut in the middle of the Amazon Jungle of Peru. I was on a vision quest. It was part of a two-week group journey into the heart of the Dark Feminine led by my mentor, Lorna Roberts, and the master jungle shaman and ayahuasquero, Agustin Rivas. Day after day I sat among the sounds and heat of the jungle, and the relentless, pounding chatter of my mind. A very restricted diet, and three experiences with the power plant ayahusca during that time left me feeling quite empty, weak, and humbled. I had gone into the jungle hungry for knowledge about the earth and the cosmos, my new business, relationships, etc., and found myself going deep within myself for the answers over and over and over again. My past lovingly showed up each day to remind me that I was afraid to know and love myself. How could I fully embrace and love all beings if I was out-of-touch with myself? I had pushed emotions down so far into my body that it had caused a physical disruption in healthy energy flow. How could I teach others about their bodies and emotions if I did not understand my own? My habit of giving away my time and energy to others had taken away from my own self-nurturing and the goals I’d set for myself, and often caused me to disregard my intuition. How could I offer others a chance to know themselves if I was constantly having to restore my energy after an over-abundance of giving?

Yesterday I woke with sharp images of my time in the jungle floating through my mind. Why were those memories so alive yesterday? Because they were reminding me that patterns I noticed 20 years ago were appearing once again, and it was time to make a change. I had been become sick and tired of being hyper-focused on what other people were doing in my business, and of holding onto thoughts and feelings that I deemed inappropriate to reveal.

What will I do with this knowledge now? As my dear friend, Rosa, used to say, “You have a lot of awareness, but if you lie around in bed with it all day, what good is it?”

Integration. Responsibilty. Action.
